Windows 7 Home Edition, Worth Upgrading To That From Windows Vista Ultimate?

What are some of your thoughts on the subject. I can get Windows 7 home edition from my school for 30 bucks. Non-Refundable and it will void my software warranty on my laptop that is about 2 years old. Is there any bugs with the Operating System? I have a Dell XPS M1330 and just use it for normal home use stuff.

I did the $30 purchase of Windows 7 as a student myself. I have been running it for a little over a month, and I am VERY pleased. Windows 7 is Vista with all the fixes it needed to make it a reliable OS. I was running XP until I upgraded to Windows 7.
If you have been running Vista you will be familiar with many of the features. I have found it to be extremely stable. The main thing I would recommend is that you upgrade your Memory. I am running 1. 5 Gigs of RAM and it runs very well. 2 would be best, 1 Gig is the absolute minimum. The Core 2 Duo processor in your computer is very capable of running Windows 7. Make sure you have a bunch of free disk space available.
The only thing that is strange is the download of the Operating System from Digital River. It downloads as a set of three files (Not an ISO image), so if you want to do a clean install you will have to do some manipulation to burn the files to a bootable DVD (yes DVD, not CD, it is a large amount of install files). If you get to that point stop by my website or send me an e-mail and I can get you more information.
This is a great deal, and you cannot go wrong for $30. The warranty on your laptop is about done anyways, so it won’t hurt to upgrade.
Windows 7 is the MUST have OS for your computer - Good Luck, let us know how it works out for you.

yes, do upgrade, windows 7 is basically the vista Microsoft wanted to release, it’s safer and faster and is worth it. there are bugs , but every new operating system has bugs, even snow leopard had bugs when it was first released. I used to be a vista user but swapped over to mac about a year ago, about two weeks ago i got windows seven to run on my mac through boot camp and my god, windows seven is far better than vista. But i have to say the best computer i ever bought was my mac because
it does everything i need and it can run windows as well. But seriously do upgrade, especially for that amazing price.

Windows 7 is the best OS ever. I have not had any issue with it at all. An upgrade to Windows 7 will NOT void your warranty.
